MEET OUR TEAM
Karissa Hurst Freano
Karissa grew up in Ventura County, California and currently lives there with her husband, Brian. Karissa earned her J.D., M.A. in Dispute Resolution, and B.S. in Business Administration and Nonprofit Management from Pepperdine University. During law school, Karissa participated in many competitions as part of the interschool Moot Court team. Karissa was awarded Champion of both the Chicago Bar Association Moot Court Competition as well as the Pepperdine University Vincent S. Dalsimer Moot Court Competition. Upon graduation, she was selected as a member of the Order of the Barristers, an honor society for graduating students who demonstrate outstanding ability in oral advocacy.
Prior to founding Pacific Coast Attorneys, Karissa first worked as an associate attorney in insurance defense for a Fortune 500 company. She has also worked as a Sponsored Programs Officer in University compliance, obtaining and monitoring federal research grants for compliance with sponsor regulations. During law school Karissa served as an anti-human trafficking intern at a nonprofit organization in India, clerked for the major crimes division of the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, and spent one summer as a law clerk for the nation’s largest pro bono law firm. Prior to Law School Karissa worked in the non-profit sector as a development coordinator and program fellow.
Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Tami grew up on the Central Coast of California. Tami lives in Ventura County with her husband and their two children. Tami earned both her B.A. and Juris Doctor degree from Pepperdine University. Following graduation from law school, Tami followed her passion for helping foster children and pursued a career in juvenile dependency. She spent nine years working at the Children’s Law Center, representing foster children in dependency proceedings in Los Angeles County. Tami opened her own private adoption law practice in 2008, serving families in both Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. Since 2008, Tami has gained extensive experience in all types of adoptions, representing countless families in their complicated adoption proceedings. Tami has extensive trial experience with contested adoptions, helping families to navigate the often emotional process of adoption.
Tami is passionate about keeping families whole and using her gifts as an attorney to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up in a loving and supportive home. Taking her 12 years of experience working with foster youth, she founded a local nonprofit, RaisingHOPE, Inc., that advocates for children in foster care and seeks to meet the often overlooked needs of foster youth in Ventura County.
